Tada: BwPostman 4 has arrived at last!

After long and hard work for many, many months now the time has come, BwPostman 4 for Joomla! 4 is ready at last.

BwPostman has experienced a complete review of the code at version 4, to support Joomla! 4 natively. With this I have cropped old code, which was partly in there since the first version of BwPostman for Joomla! 1.5.

As a result BwPostman 4 doesn't work with Joomla! 3. On the other hand BwPostman 3 doesn't work with Joomla! 4.

As a consequence BwPostman may only be upgraded to version 4 after Joomla! is upgraded to version 4, even if the Pre-Update-Check of Joomla should tell something else.

And this also means, that BwPostman now supports the new routing for search engine friendly URLs, which Joomla! introduced with version 3.8. Likewise I attached great importance to support the various versions of Bootstrap at front end. Now for all templates used at front end there are a default template, one template each Bootstrap 2, 3 and 4 and one especially tailored for the default template of Joomla! 4, Cassiopeia.

In anticipation of the support of Bootstrap 5, which doesn't support jQuery, all the JavaScript of BwPostman 4 was converted to plain vanilla, pure JavaScript without jQuery.

You can download BwPostman 4 here. For a new installation of BwPostman there is nothing special to attend.

The upgrade process from Joomla! 3 to Joomla! 4 is a bit more complicated. An advanced guidance for the upgrade process You find here. You should follow these instructions carefully!

Do You perhaps use BwPostman in another language? Or would You do so? Translators are always welcome! Meanwhile there is a project BwPostman at Transifex and now it is easier than ever to help translating. You only need an account at Transifex. Then I am able to invite You to the team. If You already have an account at Transifex, the You are able to ask directly for acceptance to the team for one or more languages.

I would illustrate the manual of BwPostman (PDF and web), because a picture paints a thousand words. But that is a lot of work and really not my core competence, to put it mildly. Here each help is more than welcome!

Perhaps You feel called on helping my tester and me? You have ideas to usability? Or new proposals, how to improve BwPostman? Just give it to me! By thread in the forum, preferably at the bug tracker https://bugtracking.boldt-webservice.de/ or by Mail. I don't only understand German, but English also, but that's it.

Tada: BwPostman 4 ist endlich da!

Nach langer harter Arbeit über viele, viele Monate hinweg ist es endlich so weit, BwPostman 4 für Joomla! 4 ist endlich fertig.

BwPostman hat in der Version 4 eine komplette Überarbeitung des Codes bekommen, um Joomla! 4 nativ zu unterstützen. Dabei habe ich auch alte Zöpfe abgeschnitten, die zum Teil seit der ersten Version von BwPostman unter Joomla! 1.5 drin sind.

Das hat zur Folge, dass BwPostman 4 nicht unter Joomla! 3 läuft. Ebenso wenig läuft BwPostman 3 unter Joomla! 4.

Das bedeutet, dass BwPostman 4 erst aktualisiert werden darf, nachdem Joomla! auf die Version 4 gebracht wurde, auch wenn der Pre-Update-Check von Joomla da etwas anderes behaupten sollte.

Das bedeutet aber auch , dass BwPostman nun das neue Routing für Suchmaschinen-freundliche URLs  unterstützt, das Joomla! mit der Version 3.8 eingeführt hat. Ebenso wurde großer Wert auf die Unterstützung von verschiedenen Versionen von Bootstrap im Frontend gelegt. Es gibt für alle Templates, die im Frontend verwendet werden, ein Standard-Template, jeweils ein Template für Bootstrap 2, 3 und 4 und eines, das speziell auf das Standard-Template von Joomla! 4, Cassiopeia, zugeschnitten ist.

Im Vorgriff auf die Unterstützung von Bootstrap 5, das kein jQuery mehr unterstützt, wurde auch das Javascript von BwPostman 4 auf plain vanilla, also reines Javascript ohne jQuery, umgestellt.

BwPostman 4 kann hier herunter geladen werden. Für eine Neuinstallation von BwPostman ist nichts weiter zu beachten.

Der Upgrade-Prozess von Joomla! 3 auf Joomla! 4 gestaltet sich etwas schwieriger. Eine ausführliche Anleitung zum Upgrade-Prozess findet sich hier. Diese Informationen sollten unbedingt beachtet werden!

Für Hilfe zu allen Fragen zur Installation, zum Update und zur Benutzung von BwPostman findet man schnelle und kompetente Hilfe im Forum.

Und wie gewohnt hier noch mein Hilfeaufruf:

Verwendest Du BwPostman vielleicht in einer anderen Sprache? Oder würdest es gerne? Übersetzer sind jedenfalls immer gerne gesehen! Da es BwPostman jetzt auch bei Transifex gibt, ist es noch einfacher geworden mitzuhelfen. Du benötigt dazu nur einen Account bei Transifex. Dann kann ich Dich ins Team einladen. Wenn Du schon einen  Account bei Transifex hast, dann kannst Du auch direkt die Aufnahme ins Team für eine oder mehrere Sprachen anfragen.

Ich hätte auch gerne Bilder im Handbuch zu BwPostman (PDF und Web), denn ein Bild sagt bekanntlich mehr als tausend Worte. Aber das ist eine Menge Arbeit und nicht so meine Kern-Kompetenz, um es gelinde auszudrücken. Hier ist mir jede Hilfe mehr als willkommen!

Vielleicht fühlst Du dich ja berufen, meinem Tester und mir ein wenig unter die Arme zu greifen?  Hast Du Ideen zur Usability, also der Bedienbarkeit? Oder neue Vorschläge, wie man BwPostman noch weiter verbessern kann? Nur her damit!
